YOUTH PROGRAM
Spirit League offers a year-round youth & adult sports program for athletes with developmental disabilities. Our youth program includes Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer for athletes ages 6-22.
Baseball
Baseball is an incredible team sport to practice critical life skills, including verbal directions, positions on the field (aka their job description), and waiting (skills adults practice daily).
Our baseball curriculum focuses on the three fundamental skills of throwing, fielding, and batting. From week one, athletes will be taught the correct position for throwing and fielding. As the season progresses, those skills will advance, including fielding ground balls (stationary and moving) and catching fly balls with proper glove positioning. Depending on the age division, teams will practice batting with a coach pitching, hit sticks, and tees. Proper hand positioning while batting, in addition to body stance, will be taught.

Basketball
Basketball is Spirit League’s most popular sport. Parents report that the skills learned on the Spirit League court readily transfer to the school playground and P.E. Athletes will be assigned a team and report to the same practice court each week.
The first part of each session will focus on teaching three fundamental skills of dribbling, shooting and passing and working with other team athletes. As the season progresses, these skills will be expanded to include different forms of passing, guarding and shooting techniques. The second part of the session will include a game with another League team within the same age division. Depending on the division, athletes will have the opportunity to play at various court positions.
