Basketball is Spirit League’s most popular sport. Games are played on indoor courts in both Tustin and Newport Coast, depending on athlete age.

2021 Season

The State of California issued guidance for youth sports in August 2020 as it related to permitted activities given the COVID-19 environment. Since our basketball seasons are usually held inside, we will be reviewing options for basketball to be held in the Spring of 2021 instead of our standard Wintertime. Check back in February of 2021 for an update on basketball.

Below are our usual basketball season guidelines. They will be updated in February 2021.

  • Division 3 (6-9 years) and Division 2 (9-13 years) will play each Saturday at the Henley Youth Center in Tustin.
  • Division 1 (13-22 years) will play each Sunday at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast.

The season runs for 10 weeks and playtime is an hour and a half each week.

Spirit League to provide: Shorts and personalized jersey
Parent to provide: Socks and tennis shoes or high tops

Baseball is a classic Spirit League sport. Athletes will learn basic sports skills in addition to team behaviors which are so important as athletes age and prepare for school and work.

We are excited to announce a Winter Baseball Clinic Series to be played in Mission Viejo. The 1-hour Clinics will be held each Saturday from February 6 to March 27 (8-weeks) and focus on individual skill development (including batting and fielding), teamwork and building confidence on the field.

Pods: Athletes will be grouped into pods according to age with 8 athletes per pod. Athletes will remain in the same pod for the duration of the series to promote both safety and friendships amongst athletes. Pods will be led by Spirit League staff with support from volunteers at the batting stations.

Equipment: Baseballs will be provided by Spirit League and be disinfected between each pod. To minimize the sharing of equipment, athletes should bring their own baseball bat and glove. Spirit League has a limited number of bats that can be loaned to athletes for the Series on a first-come, first-served basis.

Times: Division 3 (6-9 years) will play from 9:00-10:00 am. Division 2 (9-13 years) will play from either 9:00-10:00 am or from 10:15-11:15, depending on registration. Division 1 (13-22 years) will play from either 10:15-11:15 or 11:30-12:30, depending on registration. You will receive an email by January 23 with your athlete’s assigned group time. The registration fee includes attendance at all eight sessions.

If your athlete will need 1:1 assistance to participate, a parent/guardian will be permitted to provide on-field assistance. Non-family members (i.e., ABA Therapist) will be permitted if it is the same person for the duration of the Series.

COVID-19 Safety: Spirit League has prepared Return to Play Guidelines in response to State and local regulations related to COVID-19. Amongst other things, these Guidelines address distancing by athletes and spectators, shared equipment, limiting exposure and restricting the number of spectators per athlete to two spectators per athlete.  Although staff/volunteers will wear face coverings, athletes will not be required to wear face coverings. These Guidelines are available for review in the Terms and Conditions section of our registration system.

Division 3 (6-9 years): 9:00 am – 10:00 am

Division 2 (9-13 years): Depending on registration, Division 2 athletes may play at either the 9:00 am – 10:00 am session or the 10:15 am – 11:15 am session. Athletes will be notified of session time by January 23.

Division 1 (13-22 years):  Depending on registration, Division 1 may play at either the 10:15 am – 11:15 am session or from the 11:30 am – 12:30 pm session. Athletes will be notified of session time by January 23.

Division ages vary to accommodate individual athlete abilities.
