Meet Davey – A 12-year old Spirit League veteran who has a special talent when it comes to basketball. We thought you might want to know more about this superstar who plays all three League sports.
Spirit League: What is your favorite Spirit League sport?
Davey: My favorite Spirit League sport is basketball. It’s fast and I like to practice a lot. I love making 3 point shots.
Spirit League: What’s it like having your dad as your team coach?
Davey: It’s great having my dad as a team coach. He helps me stay focused and I enjoy spending time with him. (Thanks Coach Chris!)
Spirit League: We hear you participated in a sports competition at school. Tell us about it.
Davey: I competed in the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. I won the 11-year old group at my church and also won the district. I then won 3rd place in the Orange County Championship. I had to win a shoot-off and I made 17/25 free throws to get 3rd place.
Spirit League: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Davey: When I grow up I want to be a train engineer or a team coach.
Spirit League: What advice would you give a new kid who wanted to play sports with Spirit League?
Davey: It’s exciting and fun. All of the sports are fun and everyone wins!
Spirit League: Is there anything else you would like to share with other Spirit League families?
Davey: I like Spirit League because it’s fun and I get to make new friends.
Davey’s mad free-throw skills didn’t just happen overnight. He knew what he wanted but had to work extra hard to get there. Over time and with much practice, he inched closer to his goal until he was finally able to compete. You should have seen his face when he walked into his Spirit League basketball game holding his big trophy. Priceless!
Watching Davey grow season by season, game by game, has been a pleasure to watch. When you see Davey at soccer in September, give him a high five to celebrate him working hard to meet his goal. Great job, Davey.
